Hope this is useful to somebody to play around with to size their dome! For the 2V use 8.3ft or for the 3V use ~11.9ft to get the least amount of waste. 1" EMT should be able to support ~100lbs at the center for a 10' length, making a very climbable structure. Select Hub Size: Select 'No Hubs' to get the true 'chord' length for each strut, which is the full distance for the strut between each geodesic dome vertex. Strut length turns green if less than 5' which should be suitable to climb on if you are careful. The same applies for the 3V-5/8 except each conduit is split into either 1A-1C or 1B-1C (leaving 5 extra struts that can be used as spares). For the 2V dome, the value in red under the name is the length of conduit wasted in feet if both struts are cut from the same conduit. The calculations take into account 0.125' extra for drilling holes on each end of pipe as well as 0.1' for cuts. Notes: This calculator can be used to calculate the length of the struts required and the cost of the struts to build a 2V and 3V (3/8 and 5/8) geodesic domes using standard 10' lengths of EMT conduit by specifying a dome radius.
